STEM organizes Training &
Awareness Programmes, mainly in conjunction with its Research
& Consultancy assignments. Over the past decade, the
Society has organized a large number of such events including:
These events have been eliciting active
participation of development planners & managers at various
levels as also governmental and non-governmental stakeholders,
especially the Zilla & Gram Panchayats and affiliated grassroots-level
institutions responsible for project implementation and sustenance.
A case in point is the convening of a State-level Convention of
Village Water & Sanitation Committees (VWSCs) in Karnataka,
the first of its kind, at Humcha, Shimoga District.
As part of its assignments relating to
Rural Water Supply & Sanitation (RWS&S), STEM has also
organized a substantial number of training & awareness programmes.
These pertained to motivating & mobilizing village communities,
including school children, for project participation; familiarizing
elected representatives, at district & taluk levels, with
project management; and training Village Water & Sanitation
Committee (VWSC) members, pump-operators & local residents
in Water Quality Assurance (WQA). STEM also carried out a series
of programmes for the benefit of a large number of stake-holders,
spread over 32 districts, under the UP Diversified Agriculture
Support Project (UPDASP).
The capacity-building programmes organized
by STEM have been instrumental in creating precious managerial
resources in the respective sectors.
